Bill Hare for Colorado House District 4

Bill Hare is running for Colorado State House Representative in the 4th District (covering West and Northwest Denver) because he is deeply worried about the future of our democracy and the future we are leaving for our children and grandchildren; these concerns have driven his greater political involvement and now, first-time candidacy. As an ardent member of the Colorado Forward Party, Bill is running to repair our government, beginning with election reform. Our current two-party system is both broken and polarized.

It has brought America to its knees. Republicans and Democrats alike are in bed with their corporate benefactors. We will not be able to truly fix much of what is broken until we reform our electoral system and get corporate money out of politics. At the heart of his campaign is: working to implement ranked choice voting, open primaries, and independent redistricting throughout Colorado and ending Citizens United. Corporate PAC money is not welcome in this campaign.

A ten-year resident of House District 4, Bill has been a small business owner and leader in two registered neighborhood organizations. Over the years his community involvement has included sitting on numerous local boards-from national charities like United Way, to local literacy advocacy and economic development organizations. The son of educators, Bill grew up in Connecticut and lived in Wisconsin for 35 years. His design degree is from the Philadelphia College of Art, and his MBA is from Northwestern University. His wife is the author of books on 1gth-century female reformers and editor-in-chief of an open-access journal that amplifies underrepresented stories and cultural artifacts. His son is a Lt.

Colonel in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea, and his grandson of 14 loves living abroad!

As the State House Representative for District 4, Bill will be committed to pragmatic problem solving in service to ALL residents. Democracy dies when voters lack choices: incumbents should never run unopposed. Democrats may dominate District 4, but independents represent over 50% of registered voters statewide. Because of his extensive work in Denver's neighborhood organizations, he knows how to meet residents where they live, which is sorely needed. RNO meetings, farmers markets, and community events will be his vehicles for hearing from constituents - not depending on Democratic-branded gatherings.

Beyond election reform, the guiding principles for his campaign are fiscal reasonability, getting government out of the way of small businesses, protecting the less fortunate in our society and being a good listener, who priorities resident input over special interests, political party and/or donors. Not to be forgotten, there are two issues that are unique to District 4 that deserve more attention and state resources than they have received: the future redevelopment of the "old" Empower Field and saving Sloan's Lake.
