Get paid to improve Douglas county government!
Help gather signatures to get legislation on the ballot! Make $7/per signature!
** You do not need to be a resident of Douglas County to help.**
Typically, each county has three commissioners. This made sense when counties were small in terms of budget and population, but this is no longer the case in Colorado (Douglas County has over 300,000 people and over a $600 million dollar budget).
The national trend is to move away from three commissioners.
- Three commissioners means it is easy to consolidate power (two of the three commissioners can effectively control the entire county).
- Also, these three commissioners do not have to live in the area of the country that they are controlling. For example, two commissioners from the north of a county can control the future of the south of a county (budgets, development, schools, etc.).
The Initiative does two things:
- Increases the number of Douglas County Commissioners from three to five and
- Aligns county government with a nationwide trend away from "At-Large" toward electing commissioners by District, ensuring every part of the county has a directly accountable representative.
Democracy is about getting important issues on the ballot, so the voters decide. Help grow the petition so that this issue comes before the voters.
Power does not give up power easily, and County Commissioners have blocked this effort to achieve better, more transparent representation. Colorado Legislators have repeatedly blocked this good government initiative. Placing this initiative on the ballot means that it is up to the citizens!
Signature gatherers are urgently needed today through July 22nd to complete the signature collection to place a citizens' initiative on the November ballot. Gatherers will be paid $7 per signature.
