On Tuesday night August 11th, our effort to bring ranked choice voting (RCV) to Longmont elections reached its most significant milestone yet! The City Council voted 6-1 to put RCV on the ballot for use beginning in 2029. They also voted to put on the ballot a related proposal simplifying Longmont’s election cycles so that in one cycle, all three ward (district) councilmembers are elected, and in another, all three at-large councilmembers are elected. (Currently, a mix of both ward and at-large seats are elected in each cycle.)

As exciting as this is, today is when the real work begins.

We must now convince a majority of Longmont voters to vote YES on both of these proposals in November. Everyone must do what they can — door-knocking, passing out campaign literature, community events, you name it — to reach voters and convince them. We will kick off the campaign on Sunday, August 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Roger’s Grove Nature Area! Sweet Cow will be providing free ice cream for the event, and you get to use RCV to help us choose the flavors!
