Tom Acker is a Democratic candidate for Mesa County Commissioner in District 1.
As a retired professor of Spanish, he taught history for 20 years. He has been inspired by the examples set by historic figures. His community service has enabled him to work alongside the immigrant community members in their struggles to become fully engaged in the civic life here in Colorado. He has observed that when the least powerful among us suffers, that reveals a problem in our community that needs addressing. He has long worked with social justice organizations and human trafficking awareness. His priorities are housing, affordable wages, healthcare access and agricultural protections. Western Colorado water is the lifeblood of our county. He will add balance, transparency and honesty to our county commission.
Tom has been involved in making sure that the rights of all community members are respected. He seeks to build our community up from the ground by advocating for affordable housing, worker's rights and fair wages. He respects individual liberty, personal responsibility and by example his community service in other non-partisan organizations like the League of Women Voters. He shows up with a call for us to work collaboratively but with strong ethical values.
The Colorado Forward Party is delighted to endorse Tom Acker as a candidate with the integrity, honesty, and willingness to work with others (even from different parties) to best represent their constituency.
